The gay scene is a bit hit or miss here.

Take a Cenote Tour

The Yucatan Peninsula, near Cancun, is a treasure trove of unique cenotes, and natural sinkholes with crystal-clear waters, making them a defining feature of this region. They consist of small, thick corn tortillas that are fried until crispy and puffy.

This commitment is evident in their partnership with Atlantis, a well-known name in the LGBTQ+ travel community, for an annual “Club Atlantis” takeover event. It’s a bit of a hike, 120 km away, but your hotel can book you a day tour. That said, public displays of affection might draw some attention in more local areas like Downtown Cancun.

While the gay scene is more local and underground compared to destinations like Puerto Vallartaor Mexico City, Cancun still offers great gay bars, clubs, and events in Downtown Cancun. There are three gay bars, Laser Hot and 11:11, in the main entertainment zone in Central Cancun; there’s one hotel, Stay Tropical, one kilometer south of these bars.

Don’t let the fact that there aren’t many gay bars stop you from going out. The hotel zone is where you’ll find more of the beachfront, all-inclusive resorts.

While it may not rival Puerto Vallarta in LGBTQ+ representation, Cancun boasts a solid array of gay-friendly resorts, clubs, and bars. Whether you’re searching for the perfect speedos to rock at the beach or a fun new look for a night out, the super friendly team at Aire is there to help you find exactly what you need!
