I just think it's it's all about trying to achieve what I want to achieve.

Charles, I was watching some of your interviews from even before season 1 premiered, and you talked about writing a play on JRR Tolkien.

I also found it useful having some kind
of Shakespeare background, because this material is elevated in a similar way.

Vickers: In terms of the content of what we were doing, I felt prepared. What jumped out at you from the page?

I think that there was this character that had this kind of ambiguity and darkness in his past, which I liked, and was interested in.

Unlike Galadriel, this feels like pure manipulation, with Annatar playing to Celebrimbor’s pride and desperation. It was sold to me as he’s an heir to a great army. There is more to it than that.

It was an indirect way of kind of giving me a clue that he is Sauron. I think that's interesting.

Charlie: Sort of in the dirt.

Charles: (laughs) Yeah. What have you learned about yourself along the way, especially going into something as big as The Rings of Power?

I started drama school nearly 10 years ago to the day, actually.

Hence why there is such a big effect there. I think the main thing that we hope is that people enjoy it and find meaning in it. In India we have an actor called Nawazuddin Siddiqui. But I think the fact that the way the showrunners have written it is that Celebrimbor doesn't know anything about what I did. My parents liked The Lord Of The Rings, and so did my close group of friends, so I assumed everyone was obsessed with it, and would be one of those people who’d say, “What?

I think that's interesting to play and to watch, but I would like him to to resolve in perhaps a different reach, a different outcome.
