“I love how inclusive this community is,” he told Pride.com in an interview published in April.
The former tennis player is known for her professional achievements on the court but has hardly spoken of her partner. “I think as a family, we should support each other. And while the three-time NBA champion has faced scrutiny for his outspoken support of trans rights, he’s proven that his reputation is the least of his concerns.
“I think about the safety of my kid,” he noted during an appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast in June 2023.
Virginia was honored with a membership of the Order of the British Empire in 1973 for her accomplishment in tennis.

There have been various speculations that claim that Virginia is gay.
The tennis player has been pretty much private about her personal life despite being a world champion in tennis.
“But there is an original meaning to that word, and there [are] some people who embody that very powerfully.”

“I’m very uneasy about accolades that come from supporting my kids or the negativity that comes from it," Wade said.

The 76-year-old former tennis icon is considered one of the greatest players in the world who remained linked to the sport even after her retirement at the age of 40. "But my family would not be accepted or feel comfortable there, and so that's one of the reasons why I don't live there."

Ron DeSantis, has passed numerous anti-LGBTQ+ bills -- most famously what critics call the "Don't Say Gay" bill, which was signed into law in March 2022 and expanded upon just this month -- and the Florida Department of Health has taken aim at gender-affirming care for transgender youth.
Other states have introduced similar legislation and bans on gender-affirming care for transgender youth.
In the wake of such policies, families like Wade's are either moving from these states or are considering it -- though not all are able to for myriad reasons, including the high cost of uprooting a family to move out of state.

Wade’s father supported her decision to take on tennis professionally but insisted that she get her college degree, so she graduated from the University of Sussex in Mathematics and physics.
